We enjoy being a part of your student's journey while they are at HIJH and to help support them as readers, learners, and people in any way that we can. We strive to instill and help develop a love of reading in all students. We aim to provide your students with current and high interest resources that support their learning, needs, and interests. We welcome all students to utilize and borrow materials from the library. We will work with your students throughout the year by helping them find the right book for them, giving book talks, promoting reading, assisting them with their iPads, teaching them about educational technology, developing their research skills and resources, discussing digital citizenship, and more. We also provide students, teachers, and classes resources through the HIJH Makerspace.

We want you to have an inclusive, varied, and plentiful resources of quality ebooks/audiobooks during this school year and summer. Here are resources to support you in reading from anywhere.

Online Reading Resources:

Reach out to Mrs. Boudreau if you need help getting started or using any of these.

	Libby is a free app or website that can give you access to thousands of ebooks and audiobooks through the Hamilton East Public Library. All you need is your student ID/lunch numbers! Here's a video I made and some instructions on how to get that set up.
	MackinVia has an offering of free ebooks to us for our age levels through part of this fall. I also just recently purchased some ebooks through them for HIJH! You can access these now via Clever! You should see the colorful pinwheel or the black background tile logo for MackinVia under More apps towards the bottom of your Clever home page (you can heart it to add to Favorites); you can also access it under my page in Clever. 	Epic, the website or app, has a lot of free audiobooks and ebooks that students can access right now. Several of our teachers have Epic rosters, and can add you to their list. If your teacher does not have an Epic roster to add you to, let Mrs. Boudreau know, and she can assist you.
	Hoopla has several free audiobooks through the public library. Here is a video that shows how to set this up.

Research Resources

Canvas

HIJH Library has pre-curated and gathered several databases available from the state and local public libraries that can fit different topic and subject area needs in Canvas under the Research button.

Clever Login

Clever is a portal that gives students' access to some sites and databases including Discovery Education, BrainPop, and PebbleGoNext. You can also access our MackinVia ebooks from Clever.

Hamilton East Public Library's Online Databases

The public library also offers many database and digital resources to students. If you said yes to give them permission in Skyward at the beginning of the year, then your student is set up with a digital library card with their student ID numbers to access these resources.

Inspire

Inspire is a collection of databases valuable to research that is free to anyone in the state of Indiana. There are many valuable databases here; one that I often recommend as a starting point is Explora for Middle Schools.

Book Recommendations

Young Hoosier Books

The Young Hoosier Book Award program is ran through libraries and schools all across the state of Indiana. Teachers and librarians nominate books, a committee selects the top choices, and then they are nominated for this annual state award. Any student or teacher across the state that reads at least 5 titles can vote to help determine the winners of the awards in April! HIJH Students can also log their YHBA reads to hit different benchmarks and prizes. Students can find more details on earning prizes and the program in Canvas.

They have lists for three different age groups from K-8 that could appeal to younger students in your family too. HIJH primarily focuses on the intermediate and middle grade lists due to our age groups here. Here is a list of all the 2022-23 nominees and here they are with their covers and blurbs.
